Both my father and my wife had that done back in the day for infections. Coincidentally or not, they both have poor hearing. My question: is this practice still routinely done today or has it been recognized as poor and superseded?
I mean, now we put tubes in. It’s sort of the same, except instead of just cutting a hole in the eardrum we cut a hole in the eardrum and stick a tube in it to hold it open for a while.
I’m sure tools and techniques have improved.
