KS10 and Phonak Active Vent

To me the issue is the firmware and Paradise and KS10 clearly have different firmware since they require different apps.

OK. I stand corrected.

Yeah, $400 for two is a reasonable estimate. There are considerably more professional services involved with fitting them than, say, a partner mic. Tough sell. The correct user is probably someone who wants that slight boost in noisy situations and/or wants superior streaming quality. And someone who can get used to the loud click.

When I connect Target to my P90Rs the Active Vents are available for selection. This is exactly since the Active Vents were announced.
Maybe a KS10 DIYer could give this a try?
(Accoustic Parameters → Receiver/AV).
Then we will finally know…

Did I read correctly they only expect the activevent receivers to last 6 mo? Would this become like a subscription plan (Lyric?) vs outright purchase? I’m hoping to get activevent in may/june with the contract change, like I got the Roger On in December.

WH

No, just that they only have a 6 month warranty. I expect that this isn’t because Phonak expects them to break down in 6 months, but rather because they DON’T expect them to break down in 6 months. In other words, they tested out to 6 months and it all seemed fine and they stopped there. I would guess that the receiver can probably last longer, but good care and cleaning is going to be more critical for this receiver and like other receivers how long they last will probably vary considerably from individual to individual.

The titanium tips have a longer warranty, so you wouldn’t be replacing both each time.

Re: the ActiveVents ā€œbeing on the contractā€, are you referring to Costco or a private audiologist you go to? Thanks! You also mention the Roger ON being included ā€œwith the contract change, like I got the Roger On in December.ā€ I am also interested in getting the Roger ON microphone, but understood that Costco does not sell it. Did your (private?) audiologist provide you with the Roger ON under your dispensing/fitting contract, or was it through Costco?

Like many here, I am a VA patient. The VA updates their contracts with the suppliers twice a year. Does that help?

ā€œMAVā€ shows as an option in Target 7.2.1 when my KS10.0T aids are connected. But I notice it says that ā€œTinnitus is disabledā€ with ActiveVent.

Cool. So the only barriers are getting the receivers and titanium slim tips.

Great! So ActiveVent can be activated for KS10.
The notice about disabled Tinnitus appears also for my Paradises.
Thanks for verifying! :slightly_smiling_face:

Got word from my audiologist this morning that activevent is available to order, just out of stock. So, not a VA contract issue, just stock on the shelf issue. She has ordered them, and we’ll use slimtips for initial fit. If the activevents work out, then we’ll investigate more permanent molds. Yay!

WH

So it is possible to use them with slim tips?
Does anyone know, why Phonak says we need titanium molds?
Its kind of hard to come by the titanium molds.
The Active Vents can be ordered online.

As I’ve mentioned before, my audiologist has to order through the VA system. Until it is on the contract, we have no access. It appears they became available in November. I hadn’t heard about the ability to use slimtips. But she had a training with the Phonak rep and I guess you can?

WH

ā€œSlim Tipsā€ made of titanium is what is needed. These are custom molds. I believe some other manufacturer may call one of it’s domes a slim tip, but they are not the same. Here’s a link to the order form which may shed some light. https://www.phonakpro.com/content/dam/phonakpro/gc_ca/en/resources/Forms/Custom%20Earpiece%20Order%20Form.pdf

This is new to my audiologist (and everything is new to me) so I guess we’ll make our way through somehow.

But are Slim Tips suitable for a person who currently uses double domes?

Probably. Any custom mold should be able to seal as well as double domes. I think the issue would be how well it stays in place. I’m unclear what kind of retaining options there are. I don’t think a canal lock is an option.

Is the gain gong to be high enough to cause feedback when the activevent is in open mode?

WH

I would think feedback management is going to take that into account.
