Jabra Enhance Pro App glitch

I recently purchased a pair of Jabra Enhance Pro from Costco and like them very much. I’m encountering a quirk in the Jabra App and thought others may have experience with the issue. I created and saved a special program for streaming with an elevated bass EQ. Sounds pretty good by the way. However, when I revert to the All-Around setting after using the streaming program it doesn’t automatically revert to the flat-lined EQ setting. This means I have to go back into the Sound Enhancer EQ settings and manually roll off the elevated bass whenever going back to the All-Around program. I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced the same issue, particularly if they’ve discovered a fix. Thanks.

This is because in setting an increased bass response in the app, you are actually applying it to the underlying program which in your case seems to be All Around.

The correct way to do this is to get your audiologist to add the bass response just to streaming using the Smart Fit software. Or you can diy the setting yourself, but you would need to get the proper programming hardware and learn how to use the fitting software.

An alternative approach would be to make a second copy of All Around with the increased base and save that. You would still need to select the normal version for non streaming, but it would be simpler and quicker that fiddling with the sound enhancer.

At least, this is what I think is happening.

Incidentally if you are streaming music, you should try the Music program which you should be able to select in the app (unless your audiologist didn’t set that up as an option for you). There are several things done differently in the Music program which greatly improves the sound quality.

That does seem to be a “BUG” in the programing.
I just got an update for the software yesterday and it is still the same.

This is the method GN support refered me to when I reported it as a bug.

They implied it was a feature :joy: :joy::joy:!

Anyhow, set up another All Around program with the settings put back and select that when done with your program with your music changes. Then you can select that before reselecting the default AA if you choose or leave it at that program.

This is what I have done. It works okay…

My bug report went like this:

"Subject: Bug with favorites in Smart 3D 3Dapp

Smart 3D app bug:
When creating a favorite any changes made to the front screen of any programs will set that program to to the changes made to the favorite after using the favorite. Then you must put those changes back by hand.

To reproduce:
Set the volume in the All Around program to max and maybe select either Noise Filter or Speech Clarity. Then go to Sound Enhancer and save as a Favorite. Put those changes to the All Around program back. Then select the Favorite. Then go back to the All Around program. You will see the favorite volume changes there. You need to then put them back by hand.

Work around:
First set a Favorite with the defaults and name to something like ‘Default AA’. Then create any other All Around program Favorites. Then select ‘Default AA’ before going back to the All Around program.
Do this for all programs you want to create favorites for.

Request:
Can you please fix this…"

Their email back to me went like this:

"Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns regarding the Smart 3D app.

We have reviewed the behavior you described and would like to clarify that this is not a bug, but rather the intended functionality of the app.
Due to medical regulations, the app is designed to allow only temporary changes to the hearing aid settings.
This is to ensure that users have the flexibility to adjust their hearing aids for specific situations that may be more challenging, without making permanent changes that could affect their overall hearing experience.

For permanent adjustments to your hearing aid settings, we strongly recommend consulting with your hearing care professional—an audiologist. Audiologists are the only individuals authorized to perform adjustments, fine-tuning, and changes to the settings using specific programming software.

We appreciate your understanding of the importance of these regulations in ensuring the best possible care for your hearing health.

That responce from jabra seem to have nothing to do with the original complaint

Yes, it also does this with the latest version of the app also. I think the reason the app doesn’t go back to flat treble, flat mid range, and flat bass, is that if you stop listening to the streaming music momentarily, such as when receiving a phone call, then resuming listening to the music, they left the previous settings in both, “All Around”, and in, “Streaming”. This way you wouldn’t have to reset the tone settings again. Of course, this is just a WAG, (Wild Ass Guess). If I knew more, I could take a SWAG, (Scientific Wild Ass Guess).

BTW the latest version of the Jabra Pro app, includes the ability to search for Auracast broadcasts. A tremendous improvement.

Thanks folks, appreciated. Will go with the “Default AA” workaround.
Cheers.

Interestingly, when I went back on to the app, it brought up the grayed out image of the tone adjustment page as it was before, “Maximum Bass, Maximum Mid range, and Maximum, treble” just as I had left the app on streaming. When I selected the X at the right top of the tone selection page, it immediately became alive, with All Around at the top of the page, and all the sliders went back to the middle positions which is flat tone. I have no idea when that happened, but I did nothing except X out of the grayed out page.

My biggest complaint with a lot of instruction manuals, both digital and hard copy, is that they don’t really tell you anything useful. For example in the Jabra Pro app, on the All Around page, there’s a button that’s labeled Noise filter. When you go to My Enhanced Pro and then Learn About the app, there’s absolutely nothing to describe what any function, including Noise Filter does. Or Speach clarity actually does. It’s essentially useless crap. I hope that Jabra’s customer service reads this and gives us, the customer better documentation.

I wonder if their legal department tells them, “Don’t give the customer anything useful, because if it doesn’t work they can always say, “We never promised you that”.

I would encourage more people to call the ReSound consumer hotline and complain about this.

It’s clear to me that whoever designed this at ReSound never tried this themselves in real live. There are workarounds to ease the pain, but only ReSound can really fix this by changing the behavior of their app.

Please call ReSound and complain:

I already ranted about a variation of this here:

Also, the streaming, “Card”, as the pages are called, never appears unless you are streaming music. Also, it doesn’t automatically go back to the All around card when you stop streaming. I think, but not sure. Another stupid Idea is that the app is supposed to automatically go into the, Hear in noise card, as was advertised in their promotional video. Which it doesn’t. And then, they removed the speech focus function unless your hearing aid fitter activates that function at your request. Maybe it’s now included in the new version which gives us Auracast capabilities. Even though that is nice if I ever find an Auracast broadcast out in the wild.

I really think the only way this will ever improve is if as many people as possible either complain directly to ReSound or ask their Audis to talk to their respective ReSound reps.

It’s too bad that they screwed this up so badly.

Jabra’s customer service reads these forums and sometimes they reply to posts. I also went to The Apple App Store and rated the Jabra Pro app a two. Maybe, these will get their attention.

The response ignores the fact that Resound absolves themselves of their Jabra hearing aids sold at Costco where the “audiologist” they speak of works on volume of customers and not on “fine tuning”. I once sent a complaint to Resound and they replied that Costco service was not their concern/responsibility and to consult the store.

That’s because you spoke with a ReSound customer service rep. If you had spoken with a Jabra customer service rep, you might have gotten a different reply.

When I talked to ReSound customer service they treated Jabra and ReSound the same.

But I agree with them that they are not responsible for individual bad audiologists. A lot of people have gotten good service from Costco.

However ReSound is responsible for the poor streaming user experience of their app.

I have received excellent service from Costco. You are correct the streaming app is not easy to understand and their documentation is terrible. BTW The quality of the music also is terrible. It’s not bad for podcasts, spoken words, but music is terrible.

You can easily see yourself what it does. Tap the button you are wondering about and then select the Sound Equaliser and you will see what it has done.

Thanks for your advice, The settings on the equalizer in the, “All Around”, card is reduced to the lowest settings for treble, bass, and Middle. This is the exact same setting as in, “Hear in noise”, card, noise filter activated. Activating the, the speech focus button in the, “Hear in noise”, card is the same setting as the, “All around”. It appears that all those preset functions do is alter the tone settings by either boosting the treble and reducing the bass for the noise settings and doing the reverse for the speech settings.

I’m not sure what other things the app does to the hearing aids.

Each of the preset programs All Around, Music, Hear in Noise and Outside (or whatever variants you have set up by your audiologist) have many different settings that are not available via the app, for example the directionality, noise handling algorithm, the feedback suppression, frequency compression, environmental settings and so on. The actual gain settings may also be different . But whatever settings are made by the audiologist will show as zero in the app.

The controls in the app allow you to make changes compared to those base settings (the prescription) set by the audiologist doing the fitting.

If you want to explore more then you get into the realm of playing with the fitting settings for which you need special hardware, the specific fitting software (which is called Resound SmartFit) and you need to learn how to do it safely, which you can do via online courses if you are really determined.
