Hello, I am new to the forum. I just moved to Central New Jersey, and need recommendations on an audiologist for hearing aid service, and guidance on how to get evaluated for a Cochlear Implant. My old audiologist is now over an hour away, and I can’t make it to their office.
I’m looking for a good audiologist that is located closer to me so I can make it to their office for a visit.
Does anyone know any good audiologists that they can recommend near Central New Jersey?
My immediate needs are getting my existing hearing aids serviced and sent in for repair.
My non immediate needs are investigating my health insurance benefits for purchasing new hearing aids sometime this year.
I also want to get evaluated for Cochlear Implants. Can someone guide me how to find where to go for this? Are there centers for excellence in USA that most people generally go to for evaluation and surgery, or are there local centers that are recommended? I am now located in Central New Jersey.
Also, I was trying to figure out how to share my audiogram so you can understand my level of loss, but i don’t know how to do that. Is there a guide on how to upload an audiogram?
Thanks for the link! I added my audiogram on the link you gave, but that uses a separate login from the forum, and so it wouldn’t displayed. I clicked through my profile settings in the forum and found a link that says ‘my audiogram’ in the forum, and updated it there as well.
Brilliant, glad you got it sorted, ok so looking at your audogram shows that CI is a definite plan to look into, very hard to get HAs without a bit of distortion going on at certain frequencies with that level of loss.
I found the easiest way to get a CI evaluation going was to contact the manufacturers on the Internet. Each of the three CI manufacturers have extensive support ready to help. All the question you are asking us they can help you with. Doing this will also give you an idea of the quality of support you will get from each later when you need it. Support before and after the implant is one of the most important things to consider IMO. All 3 manufactures make quality implants and processors. People tend to be very bias to the CI they have so do your research about the little difference each manufacturer has. All help you hear better equally.
Typically here is the USA the CI audiologist will also be your hearing aid fitter. On the other hand most hearing aid audiologist/fitters are not CI audiologist. The research you do at first about each manufacturer will also help you with surgeons and audiologist support. Very confusing at first but gets easier as you do your research and visit with other CI people.
I am bilaterally implanted and do very well with the implants. Lots of helpful members here in the forum. Much better than you find on Facebook for example IMO.
