Hearing Tests

I know that pure tone tests and word recognition scores are very important. Are there any other tests that I should consider important in assessing my need for hearing aids?

Speech in noise testing. It will determine your “signal to noise ratio loss”. The higher the SNR loss the more difficulty you will have in noise and may require a higher level of technology. Unfortunately, not may practices do speech in noise tests. When the hearing aids are fit, insist on Speech Mapping to help set the initial prescription. It may not be the perfect prescription right away but in will get you in the right ballpark and the skill and experience of your fitter will determine the fine tuning. If you have a problem, SAY SOMETHING. There are many very good professionals out there but ;none of them are mind readers. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
