I am picking up my first pair of HA’s tomorrow and really have no idea what to expect except an improvement in my hearing. my wife and I regularly go to rock concerts (as well as others) and I’m just wondering if there is anything I should know about HA’s in regard to loud music. We don’t usually sit up front but the music is still at a pretty substantial volume.

Thoughts?

I’d recommend wearing OTC musician’s plugs (like ETY) at concerts vs. your hearing aids. The sound levels at concerts are usually MORE than loud enough so you won’t need amplification, and the plugs will help protect your remaining hearing without distorting the music like foam plugs will.

You should stop attending any concerts and loud events

Not an option. It’s our enjoyment. But honestly, the groups we’re seeing are mostly in small venues so I’m not overly concerned.

That’s that I was thinking about. Are there any that you would recommend and where would I find them?

You should stop directing other peoples lives. Not that your alone. Are you by chance a politician?

kenny relax if someone has gotten to the point of needing aids they really should consider laying off the rock concerts. I wonder their age and thier partners audio-gram.

Yeah, right Jakey. Don’t do the things that bring you pleasure any more. Audiogal gave them good advice that lets them have a full life. Your suggestion turns them into surly old grumps. Birds of a feather?

Ok. First of all I don’t believe concerts have had that much of an effect on my hearing. I just don’t want them to exacerbate my current situation. I had ear infections every two weeks as an infant and at one point doctors said I probably would lose my hearing by the time I was 18 years old. I am now 59. For 12 years I was a field engineer in NYC and walked around hearing sirens, construction, etc. (not to mention subways). I honestly feel that NYC had more of an effect on my current hearing loss than anything else.
Not going to see music I enjoy is not an option. I am going to continue going to concerts. I am just looking for the best way to have the best of both worlds. As I said earlier right now I am listening to AudioGal and hopefully she can provide more specifi info as to brand, type etc. Both my wife and I enjoy concerts, shows, etc. and I am not planning on living my life as a handicapped person. I’m probably more handicapped now without the hearing aids since I can’t hear much of what I should be able to. Hearing aids are supposed to help me. They’re not helping if I have to live in a bubble.

Good for you. Live life!

Audiogal won’t likely toot her own horn but, if you click on her link above, you see she sells them. I imagine the $12 ones are in your wheelhouse.

I will definitely order a pair for myself and possibly one for my wife as well (can’t hurt). Most likely by the end of the day. I like supporting people that are helpful…

Here is a link,

think I’ll get the $12 ones for my spin class.

Those are the ones I’m going to get as well. I’m also getting a pair for my wife so hopefully we don’t have to pay for 2 sets of hearing aids… I did write to Hawkins and asked if they can get different colors so that we can differentiate. I know they are available on Amazon but I’d rather give my business to someone who helped me.

The link provided here for earplugs isn’t working anymore. Since this thread is four years old, I wonder if anyone can suggest an alternative link to purchase some good quality plugs, or suggest any better earplugs for concerts. Thanks.

On a quick look I found this link below. There seem to be different plugs for different situations. I think I would just go to Home Depot and buy some disposable ones that have a max dB reduction. However, it is claimed that some ear plugs provide better sound with music. My observation was in looking at them, that they don’t provide as much noise reduction though.
