Doctor’s, especially “specialists”, seem to only want to treat the symptoms of the problems within their area of expertise instead of looking for the root cause of the problem. Over the course of a 6 -8 month period, I was extremely ill and getting worse with symptoms ranging from vertigo, fatigue, flare-up of existing ulcerative colitis, nerve pain in jaw, neck, and ear area, which culminated in sudden hearing loss. I saw 8 doctors including 3 different ENTS, neurologist, gastroenterologist, and primary care doctor and none of them had a clue! Most of them just gave me anything from steroids to antibiotics to Dramamine and shoved me out the door. I felt like I was generally unwell and going to die for MONTHS and no one helped me.
After I was finally diagnosed with gall stones and a gall bladder infection, I had the gall bladder removed. After surgery, I was given nausea pills, Tylenol w/ narcotic, and high dose advil (600mg) and told to take each of them every 6 hours or as needed. I asked my gastroenterologist if I should continue taking the steroid he gave me after the surgery and told him the pain meds I was taking and he flipped out and told me to stopped taking the Advil immediately as it was dangerous, especially for me. Yet, the gall bladder surgeon who gave me this prescription was the one that this gastroenterologist recommended and she knew I had ulcerative colitis. And ALL of the doctor’s knew about my sudden hearing loss because I had to bring my mother with me to help me hear what was being said during the appointment. I am just appalled that I was given high dosage of Advil.
I am telling you, you have to look out for yourself because no one else really will.
