Sadly the first sound I heard through my brand new (then analogue) aids was someone dismantling a piece of scaffolding and throwing it from one storey up into a skip full of other pieces of metal scaffolding parts. That’s a frequency I already hear well, with the full gain of what I needed for mid frequency on top, no automatic gain control (it was over 15 years ago and a public health aid, it didn’t ‘do’ features). You can imagine that it was a few days before I put those things back in again! Ow, I can still feel that in my head.
Recently when I changed to a good quality digital aid, environmental sounds - kettles, turn signals, refrigeratorm motors, etc. And also that my daughter has a talking toy phone. I thought it just flashed! That is is possible to hear the phone, and we can watch a TV show all the way through without stopping every 2 minutes for the “what did he say?” conversation.
