I recently got fitted with new Paradise aids by the VA, after having Marvels for a while. Since there was little change in my hearing, the program settings from the old aids were simply carried over. The new aids sound just like the old ones. Maybe just a little better, but so little, it is difficult to say. I am trying rechargeables for the first time, and so far, I like them. The batteries last through even a long day of normal use. They don’t make it through a long day of streaming, however. No big deal for me. Might not be the same for everyone, though. One pet peeve concerning streaming. I like to mute the microphones on the aids when streaming with a long down press on the right aid. The Marvels had it, and though the Audiologist said these don’t, they do. However, if I happen to leave the limited range of the TV streamer, they revert back to microphones on. The P90R’s are almost exactly the same size as my M90-13T’s. The Marvels may be just a few thousandths wider, but the difference is hard to see. I got the new aids primarily because I requested the Roger On. I thought they would just install the Roger receivers in the old aids, but no, they got me new aids as well. I haven’t used the Roger On much yet, but plan on using it quite a bit. My first use was in a large room, with lots of hard surfaces. Not a good listening environment for me. What I wanted to do was actually beyond the capabilities of the Roger On, and that was to pick up voices from about 50 feet away. What I did hear was every footfall, every paper shuffle, ballpoint pen click, chair squeak. Voices, not so much. There was a conversation closer to me held at a low level, which I was able to hear very well. I got several funny looks while holding it at waist level and trying to be inconspicuous. I was prepared to explain that it was a remote microphone, used by my aids to help me hear.
Later that same night, at a local restaurant, pointing it around didn’t yield much, but placing it flat on the table, I heard everything that was going on nearby. Admittedly, a lot of it was scraping chairs, and clinking plates, but it was there. One area where I don’t think the Roger On does a very good job is in streaming. It uses its internal batteries when streaming. The TV Connector is externally powered. The range of the On is less than the TV Connector. I was hoping it would be more. You don’t have to install Roger Receivers to use the TV connector, either. In everyday use, I’ll admit, the aids don’t really help my hearing much. I get a lot of noises that actually interfere with understanding speech. It is difficult to say that they help in normal conversations. They certainly don’t help in noisy situations. I was in a place Saturday where people with normal hearing were having problems, and I didn’t seem to be any better, or worse. None of this is due to the make, or model of my aids, and I am sure any other aids would be the same, in that respect. I am going to continue to wear them, and hope to get a lot of use out of that Roger On.

Hi John, I am glad you are getting out and about with the Roger On, and new Paradise aids… Roger On works better in in certain Modes, I think Presenter Mode (via the lanyard), and Table Mode, are 2 of the best features, you are correct to say, the On picks up everything, but you can change certain features/settings via the MyRogerMic app, if you have a smart phone, the app loads immediately, there is no lag… Presenter Mode for me is pristine listening, especially in a car, or out walking with someone, I tested it today whilst out walking with my wife, and the dogs, I wanted to find out what sort of distance the On could achieve, with my wife on the lanyard, tis very effective up to approximately 60 feet away, starts to breakup between 60 and 80ft, then loses the signal, it will not reconnect until you are back to around 50ft away from the aids, this is all via direct line of sight… Table Mode can be all encompassing picking up everyone, or you can direct it to whomever you want to listen too, via the app… Good luck, Cheers Kev

Any idea what kind of range within a house (with walls in the way)? My PartnerMic claimed 80 feet,
but within the house it was more like 30 feet. Thanks.

That might depend on the internal wall construction @MDB, I live in a 4 bedroom bungalow, with stud wall partitions, just tested the Roger On internally just now, via Table Mode, it will get a signal in every room, but the furthest away one, it does drop the signal, the rest are fine in every part of the rooms, including the toilets, I would say 40ft is achievable, but brick built internal walls might be different? Cheers Kev

Mine is of similar construction, but when device is placed in bedroom at far end of house, signal must get through multiple walls to reach main part of house. A large mirror in one bathroom may also present another obstacle. Thanks!

I have a combination living room, dining room, and kitchen. All one big area. If I go to the kitchen, I would say about 25 feet, with no obstructions, both the TV Connector, and Roger On fade out. The Roger fades a few feet closer. I have a lot more experience with the TV connector. At times, I have gone out my front door, and maybe 100 feet into the driveway, and still heard the connector. But, reliable range, for me, is about 20 feet.

When you use the Roger On in pointer mode, be sure not to cover up any of the holes on top. Hold it by the back half so it can use all its microphones.

Really appreciated reading your thoughts as I’m in line to get new Paradise aids with a Roger On.

This may be obvious, but you need to reduce the volume of your hearing aids when using any remote mic, or the background noise will be much too much! I have the Paradise RT and the On and really find the table mic to be helpful. Particularly at quiet meetings. I can now hear all 18 members at a board meeting! It is much better than my precious Oticon connect clip but nothing really works when it gets very loud in a restaurant. You can also use the On instead of a neck loop. I plan to use mine for the tour guides who use a Quietvox ration tour guide system so I don’t have to use the provided headphones.

I don’t have the Phonak TV streamer, I use the charging base for the ON which can also be used as a TV streamer. I can hear the TV when streaming in adjacent rooms, even with brick internal walls.

I’ve also used the ON by putting it in a pocket, both at a reception, and at my Tai Chi class (which is outdoors), and to my surprise it has worked very well.

While I am generally satisfied with the Paradise aids, I must admit they don’t really do a lot for my hearing in real world situations. In fact, they seem to interfere. Most folks who have them are very happy with them. Depending on your exact situation, you might see a great improvement in your hearing with them. I don’t mean to put down the aids. I have a difficult, if not impossible hearing loss to fit well. I do enjoy using them to stream my TV directly to my ears. I think you will get a lot out of the Roger On. It won’t work miracles, but it does do a good job at what it does. Good luck with your new aids.

I’m with you on the general efficacy of hearing aids.

hello, what is the range of Roger On in Table mode? I understood that Roger Select works within a range of 1.2 meters and roger table mic2 within a range of up to 3 meters, but I did not find any information about roger on. at the same time, in point mode, does it work ok at more than 2 meters? thank you!

Hello @dobrin.bogdan… Much depends on the level of background noise, but 3 to 4 feet, or around 1200mm is usually very good… As for Pointing Mode, it’s absolutely terrible! Lanyard or Presenter Mode is also excellent… Cheers Kev

I’ve been using a Roger On iN In for about 3 months now, and it has been a life changer for me. I do part-time teaching, and by placing the Roger On iN in the middle of the classroom, it allows me to hear all of the students (but only when it is quiet in the room). When I dine with friends at restaurants, I place the Roger On in the center of the table, and I can hear everyone at the table (it was a real strain before). And I sometimes observe court trials, and when I place the Roger On on the clerk’s desk, I can hear the judge, attorneys and witnesses better than other normal-hearing people in the audience.

I have a TV Connector, so I don’t use the Roger On for tv streaming. I’ve never had an issue with running out of battery (after 4-5 hours of use). The iOS phone app gives me a lot of control over the Roger On.

I agree with other commenters that the pointing function is not very useful, but the table and presenter modes work very well. I am MOST impressed with the device, and highly recommend it to people with compatible Phonak hearing aids. 10 out of 10 stars!
