Experiment: I'm turning the Bluetooth off

@flashb1024: Thanks for your reply,
:zap: Flash:zap:. I don’t know what the Unitron lingo was. In those days, I was an even less savvy HA user than I am today! :joy:

Hi, so many posts that I will cut to the chase and say what I think .
I think I agree that Bluetooth gives you an immersive experience with sounds directed straight to your ears. It is tempting to stream music as you can. If you browse and see a sound clip, click and its in your ears. You are immersed and it is private. You are in your own little bubble. It can be addictive.

Actually you don’t need hearing aids to become immersed and isolated in a BT bubble. Look around you in the street; do you see people around you with large white buds or wires hanging from their ears, oblivious to their surroundings, ignoring traffic, immersed in their little bubbles?

In my case it annoys my wife. When I am not streaming and she speaks but I don’t hear, she automatically assumes I am streaming even when I am not.

When I am on the phone, BT directly to my ears it is wonderful and I hear clearly; she cannot.

Yes, do apply self-control as others here kindly suggested, but let us know how your experiment went.

Jumping in again, Phonak Autosense is automatically overridden if you select a program such as music.

My husband also assumes I’m streaming if I don’t hear what he’s saying. Really annoying because I rarely stream if he’s around. He has a habit of narrating his day as he goes so I am always trying to figure if he’s talking to me or just talking. :joy:

I’d like a beanie that lights up when I’m streaming. Just so she knows.

Tell your HA maker. Phonak has multi-coloured LEDs. Get them to allow you to activate the GREEN so your ears light up. Maybe RED when you mute them or YELLOW if you don’t want to be disturbed.

@roybrocklebank: Or a kaleidoscope of kaskading kolours if the streaming is currently having a dizzying effect on your mental health!

Just about lost it on that there…

My audiologist did say that I stream more than any patient she’s had.

Why that will just eat up the batteries even faster

No problem here. My family can hear when I’m streaming.

LOL, actually when I am on the phone (discretely) my wife will speak to my cousin via my aids and can hear his replies. Surreal.

Me (streamed phone call): “Sorry, I missed that”.

Kids (back seat of car): “She said…”

That reminds me of driving a car with my wife sitting next to me. We had to slow right down because the car in front couldn’t get past someone on a bicycle, who was cycling quite slowly.

There was something written on the back of the cyclist’s tee shirt and I said to my wife “what does it say on his tee shirt?” She replied “I don’t know, I can’t quite read it.” Our six year old grand-daughter who was in the back of our car just read it straight off to us and when we got closer I could see that she was quite correct.

Anyway, I had my cataracts sorted out after that experience!
