Experience with Oticon and tinnitus

I recently trialed Oticon OPN. They were very good hearing aids, but there were a couple of things that were quite striking to me. 1) Things were quite noisy (I’ve worn aids for 3 years–this was more than the typical noisiness associated with first getting hearing aids) First, there was the noise at start up. Kind of a constant low pitched hiss. Not real loud, but quite noticeable. I finally attributed this to processor or floor noise. I quickly accommodated to it. Secondly, the refrigerator was very loud. I couldn’t tell the difference between it and the microwave running. Overtime, I’m pretty confident I would have.

BUT, the point of this post is that my tinnitus become MUCH less noticeable when wearing the aids. Now that I’m back in my old aids or the Phonak Marvels I’m trialing, tinnitus is fully back and the noise level seems more normal. Tinnitus isn’t that big of a deal to me, but if it were, I’d definitely go with the Oticons.
