Do You Wear Your Hearing Aids to the Dentist or Not - and Other Places You Avoid Wearing Your HA's?

I never take my aids out when in the dentist chair. I would not hear anything. It is hard enough to understand what the dentist is saying with the masks on.

Like others here, I keep mine in. I have a hard enough time hearing what the hygienist is saying with them in, it would be hopeless if I took them out.

I usually leave them in but remove them if I get any x-ray.

Old thread was revived.

Dentist - Wear my HAs for cleanings. Root canals or fillings I might remove them because of the drill sound and extra water. I need to hear their commands (open, close, chin up, bite down, etc). If it weren’t for that they would be out. Hate when hygienist is yacking at me when cleaning my teeth. I can’t respond and I feel so vulnerable I just want to get it over with. LOL…

Haircut - Remove them. This gives me good excuse not to have to make small talk with the barber. Especially a male barber. I’m just not comfortable regardless of sex due to invasion of personal space. So would rather not chat.

My dentist has the nasty habit of yelling on the top of his voice when he sees me wearing hearing aids. I remind him to please just talk slowly and precisely since yelling louder is always counter-productive. But he insists on me wearing them since from time to time he wants to tell me something or ask a question.

Perhaps he needs hearing aids. Hearing loss for dentists is an occupational hazard.

The only times I don’t wear them is when getting a haircut and CT exam or other medical procedures. Also when doing yard work in hot weather. My ears must sweat in hot weather and i guess my receivers short out from moisture. A few hours of drying out and they are good to go again.

On similar note really I have wondered about using aids while am practising playing violin. If don’t use I can’t tell properly if am in tune and my hearing hasn’t had any significant change since can remember. I only ask as was recently told I shouldn’t use aids and maybe use earplug in left ear to prevent further loss. I’ve been playing since age 9 and was difficult as hearing loss dips down in mid frequency so without aids I can’t tell if something sounds ok. It don’t sound loud to me but just wondered if I should maybe not use em. Thanks :heart_eyes_cat::paw_prints:

I don’t wear my hearing aids when I’m doing yard work or exercising outdoors. I don’t want the salt from my perspiration to ruin them.

And of course, if I’m swimming, taking a shower or doing anything else that will get them drenched, I don’t wear them.

Other than that, they are on all day, no matter what I’m doing.

I use Oticon’s with closed domes. With the little remote device, I can discretely turn them down in noisy environments, so they act like ear plugs to keep loud sounds out of my ears.

I’ve had a lot of practice with sound level meters, so I know about what 85dba feels like.

So if I get to a place where the sounds are too loud or uncomfortable, instead of taking them out, I just turn them down.

I have my hearing aids always in as least as it is necessary to take them out. For communication I have interpreter/ deafblind assistance.

Had cataract surgery last week… advised to leave them in so they could communicate with me.

I always wear them at the Dentist office no Issues since the really chatty tech retired,

Hi. In these situations, I would let them know i have hearing aids I’ll need to take them out during the appointment (once they start work) due to the volume. Would you be able to hear them ok without them?

I find sometimes when I lie back they make a fuzzy noise, so I tend to take them out for those sort of things. In the city I take them out to due to noises like construction and so on.

I remove my R) CI processor, as the dentist works from my R. Leaving my processor on and everything would be far to loud and uncomfortable. But I leave my HA in otherwise I wouldn’t hear what the dentist was saying.

I keep mine in at the dentist. Never had any problems with that. I take them out when getting haircuts. There are two many things being used there that can damage the aids. Other than that I pretty much wear them everywhere. I don’t think you can wear them for an MRI but they’re safe for cat scans or x-rays

Does NE1 wear them during intercourse? Sound is a big part of intercourse, right? Since the Audéo Fit can detect your heart rate and also detect certain motions, then maybe it could determine when you are engaging in intercourse. Then Phonak could modify their Fit model to include AutoSex 1.0. and activate some new AutoSex 1.0 programs such as StereoMoanZoom. No wait, maybe that would be too loud? How about Comfort in moaning?

PVC, you have a very strange sense of humor

LOL! I’ve got the Monster VitaMix, too, and while I caution my hubs to plug his ears, I just leave it to my newer Phonak Lumity Life aids to dampen down the dangerous dB while it’s running. With my older Phonak Marvel aids I HAD to turn them OFF it was so painfully loud.

Hm. p’haps my hearing has also diminished from a few years ago, which would be a discouraging reason why I don’t need to turn the newer aids off.

It might be that you’ve grown so used to the noise that it doesn’t seem so loud any more!

I put it to the test! I wore my old Marvel aids when whirling the Vitamix and OWIE OWIE OWIE! It was loud and shrill. Then I put in my Lumity Life aids and while the sound is loud, it seems that the Noise Management feature on these newer aids may work better, cuz I didn’t even have to turn the volume down!
