Decrease in word recognition after eardrum perforation

Punctured my right eardrum at work in April. It’s healed up, so I had a hearing test to see if it resulted in a change.

Word recognition dropped to 72% at 85db. Last test was 96% at 80db. There was no significant change in puretone hearing in either ear.

My left ear is 96% at 80db, and has not changed.

Is this something that is expected with a perforation, or is it unusual? I have definitely noticed greater difficulty in understanding speech.

Thoughts?

Let’s approach this from common sense. You now have scar tissue on your drum. This means it will respond differently to any stimuli.
You have had 5 to 6 months healing.

You will probably need correction.
