Costco Rexton Trax 42 (Product Information)

Just ordered red a pair of trax42 aids at costco. Replacing an old pair of oticon epoq s. Costco dispenser recommended these over the Kirkland 6.0. Promotion includes the remote.

Can the iphone app control volume directly without an accessory? Looking forward to the trial

Yes it can!

Really working on using the aids properly. Realize I’m hearing about 90+% of conversations when I heard probably 70% before.

I have the smart connect and I like it. I steam music but it’s pretty poor quality. Could be programming or the open domes. Will work on that.

I don’t get a lot if calls anymore but the Bluetooth is nice when I do.

My thinking is to bite the bullet and buy the BT now because if I wait, I’ll just talk myself out if it.

I use my iphone a lot so it’s natural for me to use it for my hearing aids. Plus I like an visual/interactive interface. More future options too.

mjd2k:

Open domes could be the issue with bluetooth sound quality. If you press both volume buttons on the smart connect device, it may switch from “streaming + ambient” to “streaming only”. The sound quality may be better. The other option is to use a mini-jack patch cable to connect your phone to the smart connect. Hard wire connection will ALWAYS have better sound quality. Bonus, the battery will last longer (on the Smart Connection) if you use a cable.

Evil

Thanks evil. I will try that. I just happened to to start looking for my iPod last night. Better for the gym than an iPhone. I had tried the double press but never noticed a difference. That’s ok as my expectations for music streaming we’re qiute low.

Ok, I can now hear airline attendants on the plane. previously my wife would just translate. Went to a resteraunt last night. The AIDS died as the rechargeable batteries can’t seem to make it through a long day. No problem, need to bring spares. Lesson learned.

BUT!!! When they died, the waitress’s might as well have been speaking Swahili. My brother translated.

Sooooooo, they are working!!! Not perfectly in all situations, but I feel lost when they don’t work at all!!! I actually walked back a block to get them tonight as I had forgotten them in the hotel.

I gk a biking lesson today with a full face helmet on. I heard every word my coach said. Amazing !!! It would have been a totally frustrating experience for both the coach and me before

A note: I think I have figured out the manual directional mics. They work fantastic at cutting out out-of-span noise, but they do not give any extra amplification to the speaker. So it seems if I could not hear them before, I can’t with the directional mic locked. That’s ok. Just need to know the limitations

I am just so pumped about how these aids, work!

I have a defibrillator in my chest. It is a pacemaker/defibrillator with the pacing part turned off. I am considering the Costco Trax 42 and wonder if anyone knows if the Smart Connect neck loop will do any harm to my defibrillator. I have been told by my Cardio and the manuf. (Boston Scientific) that my iPhone should not be kept in my left inside jacket pocket where it would be next to the defibrillator. Thanks for your info.

I would contact Siemens directly and not information from web forums.

The smart connect is not safe to be worn with a pacemaker. The same can be said for any manufacturers neck worn Bluetooth streamers. When in doubt do what doc said and check with the experts, starting with your doctors.

The Smart Connect (same as Siemens easyTek) does not affect implantable cardiovascular devices:

You have to be careful with any electronic device near your pacemaker. I recall that the iCom was not considered safe with a pace maker. I would assume that the Smart Connect neck loop is the same. Newer version of bluetooth, BT4 is much lower energy than the iCom (which was Bluetooth 2, I think), but I would definitely check with Rexton before purchasing.

Evil.

Thanks a bunch for that important info.

Rasmus seems to have access to better information than I can get my hands on. I was going by the warning in the user manual for the smart connect that states “risk of interference with active implants or life support systems! If you wear a pacemaker consult a cardiologist before using your device”. I guess they may put that on everything just to cover themselves,

These sound like my Linx2 that I am thinking of taking back (and purchasing from Costco instead). I am thinking about the Trax 42, but not sure. Just found out about all of this today. Less than half of what I paid!

since you have already tried the linx I would try the trax first at costco unless you have an iphone implanted 24x7.

Thanks for this advice!

To organise a trial from Costco, do I have to pay for the aids upfront first then get refunded after I return it or can they just give me the hearing aids to take home for 30days without me paying anything?

Reason why I’m asking is because I already purchased and wearing the KS 6.0 and I want to trial the Rextons.

So in my case, do I have to pay another $2600 upfront to trial the Rextons trax 42?

Does Costco keep spare hearing aids for people to take home to trial? Or do they have to order new ones in first??

Thanks

I needed to pay when I took the trax with the understanding I would get a refund if I decide to trial the k6 ( and of course pay for the trax)

I’m hoping you do try the trax so you can compare and let us know your opinion.

So if I were to trial 2 hearing aids at the same time, I would have to pay for both? $1800 + $2600?

Because I really want to take them both home so I can get a good comparison by testing the aids with my normal lifestyle

Also, how big is the easytek? Is it as small as the KS 6.0 phoneclip?

Thanks

costco is easy but they aint stupid…

You’ve got good experience with the KS6 at this point. I would think that within a day or two of changing you would know if the Trax was superior.

Costco is cash and carry.

I’ve been looking at what everyone has been saying about the Trax 42 and the KS6. I bought the KS6 last month at the advice of one of the Costco audioligist. I’ve been very disappointed in the way they work in loud situations. Went to another Costco and tried the Trax42. Audiologist said android smart app wouldn’t work, but I had already loaded it to my phone and it synced with no problem. At first there wasn’t enough volume so she switched to a larger RIC. What a difference I could hear music better than I had in years(KS6 sounded metallic), and in party mode I was able to understand a man talking 30ft away. Not saying it’s going to make things perfect but definitely better. Taking KS6 back and picking up Trax42 along with freebie charger on July 6th.
