I plan to give my KS 6’s to my cousin. He is a Costco member in another state. The other Costco store said they would not adjust or tune the hearing aids to him. Only if it is a husband and wife transfer. Does anyone knowThe Costco policy on this.

I don’t know if they have any kind of internal policy on this, but it’s not covered in the agreement between Costco and the customer. I think the only way you’d have any luck with this is with a charm offensive. I’m not terribly hopeful though. These are approximately 5 year old aids and are well past warranty.

I don’t think Costco will help with fitting a different person other than the original patient.

An example of how tuff they are is I bought my wife’s KS9 aids. A couple months later I happened to be going by Costco and took my wife’s aids with me to get them cleaned while in that area. Costco didn’t want to do this for me, only my wife, the patient. When I told them I bought the aids for her they changed their mind and serviced the aids.

This was at a San Antonio Texas Costco.

I have a pair of Phonaks that belonged to my deceased Father-in-Law. I asked if they could be reprogrammed as a spare pair for me. I was told no, they offer no services on non-Costco devices. BUT he did state he could have if they had been from Costco.

I do not know if the fact I had an existing Costco HA customer/patient relationship at that location might have affected the issue, as opposed to opening a new patient account without a purchase. Or if it varies locally, or maybe xxxx is just a fine fellow.

I’ve heard of other cases of somebody bringing a relative in and wanting to give them older Costco aids and having them help. I don’t think it’s something one should expect, but one could get lucky. The KS6 are tough because if Costco won’t program them, nobody will as they are locked.

I have Costco KS8s. I gave my KS6s to my father hoping Costco would program then for him. He went to the Costco in NE Memphis, TN. The technician agreed to a one time set up - no more service afterwards. I assume that it’s up to the individual Costco technicians to make a decision.

Update. I called Costco headquarters and told them my dilemma. One day later ,actually today, a regional hearing aid specialist from Costco called me. Apparently there is a form that is used that the new owner must sign. He said that the New Jersey location should and would give my cousin a hearing test and set up the KS 6’s for him. The 6’s are out of warranty so that would probably be the extent of the services. I think my cousin will get a lot out of them and will be shortly buying the new KS 10’s.
