Costco and Starkey?

Are any of the Costco aids rebranded Starkeys?

No unfortunately not yet, who knows maybe in the future.

Great. Thanks. I actually have a neighbor whose son has Starkeys, whose husband now needs aids, and for some reason some app or another they use regards both of them as the same person if both have the same brand.

That app sounds like it needs some improvement!
I suppose the neighbors want to buy at Costco, but avoid Starkeys because of the app? That would suck if Starkey HAs would work best for him but the app problem dissuaded him from getting that brand.

For all I know, there are ways to handle it, but I’m not getting involved with that.

No, her plan is to give the Starkeys to the husband, which will cost something like $700 to have them reprogrammed and to change out the molds for the son that are on them. And then she plans to buy the son another $7,000 (original cost of Starkeys) worth of new aids. I’m going to talk to her again soon and will tell her why I think there are better ways to go, but as you know, telling people things like that is often a waste of breath.

Yep, some people just will not listen, and/or refuse to learn. It also sounds like she favors her son over her husband, at least when it comes to hearing aids!

Word on the street is soundgearamp is available at select Costco locations. We’re still trying to figure out which locations.

Are these typically cheaper or just sold through different channels? Some of those in ear designs look oddly similar to Virto R.

It’s possible that Starkey is under pressure right now. In Germany, the largest independent hearing aid retail chain is a company named KIND.

They were primarily selling rebranded Starkey HAs. More recently KIND added Oticon to the mix and in June, Demant acquired KIND:

In all likelyhood the KIND retail channel will shrink for Starkey, and they are under pressure to replace it with something else. Starkey is by far the smallest HA manufacturer of the ā€˜big 5’, so losing a major sales channel in Europe has to hurt…

According to one source of mine (Costco HIS employee), they have received pricing… unfortunately, I don’t know the cost… Here’s what he said to me:

So I guess it’s ā€œofficialā€ now. The Starkey SoundGear M RIC R, RIC 312, ITC R, IIC, CIC R, Premium Charger, Remote Control, Remote Mic, Table Microphone, and TV Streamer showed up in the price list. Marked for ā€œtest locationsā€. There’s also a recharge Jabra MAX SP BTE. We’ll see.

The Jabra SP BTE is also interesting (An Enzo no doubt?) it’s sorely needed at Costco for severe/profound use’s who’ve been left out.

The Jabra is what I have on order at Costco. They are supposed to be the same as the Resound Enzo IA.

They will be exactly the same as ReSound models, Jabra are just rebranded ReSound.
