Confirming Widex Moment programming requirements

I have Widex Moment HAs and Compass software. Do I only need Widex Pro Link or is there another connector I need?

Besides eBay, is there a recommendation where I should get one?

Thanks!

Yes Widex Pro Link alone because it communicates wirelessly to your Widex Moment HAs and no other connectors are needed. Yes, EBay is generally where you find these for sale.

There is an additional/addon device, the WIDEX PRO LINK Connector (that fits atop the WIDEX PRO LINK) and has female mini-DIN cable connections for fitting Widex hearing aids using cables. But this is only for Widex HAs which are not wireless such as the tiny Widex CIC-Micro. Tip: Don’t forget to use a battery inside the Connector!

Also; As of 2021-Q2, Noahlink Wireless has been added as a Compass GPS programming device. However, only for the latest MOMENT model, and you will need to update your hearing aid firmware using the Widex MOMENT App before you can use NoahLink Wireless.

Maybe you could use Noahlink Wireless to program the MOMENT hearing aids?? But this is new, not well documented, and you would probably be the first to try using Noahlink Wireless for the Widex Moment HAs. So good luck if you try this because you will get no support.

You can try this eBay member, plenty of us have brought from him

Also another

Plus ones up for sale as of now

I didn’t know this! I have a Noahlink Wireless for my Phonak Paradise HAs! I’ll definitely give it a try first. Thanks!

Great that you don’t have to buy extra equipment to try it! The key to making this work is having the latest software updates, and the latest firmware updates:

  • Compass GPS 4.2 minimum, Compass GPS 4.3 even better
  • Latest firmware updates for your MOMENT hearing aids. Maybe the MOMENT App can help, or maybe you still have a relationship with your Audi?
  • Latest firmware update for your Noahlink Wireless; Noahlink wireless computer connectivity issue - #23 by pvc

It all works great! Easy update to Compass 4.3. I was already on the latest NoahLink and Moment firmware. I had an old program from my HA trial of Widex Moments that my audi gave me, but I ran an in-situ test which resulted in a much better experience than in my trial.

I think the direct Widex Bluetooth ASHA streaming isn’t as well implemented as Phonak Paradise right now, but I’m playing with it. For some reason the streaming gets the left and right side out of synch sometimes. I’m also going to turn off the mic during streaming because the streaming ends up cutting out.

Overall, I may be switching to back to Widex from Phonak because I don’t love Phonak AutoSense. It’s too strong for my taste. I’ll be combing through the Widex programming side of this forum to see what other tricks there are.

Thank you!

Thank you for your contribution. Unless I’m mistaken, you are first to DIY program a Widex MOMENT hearing aid using the ubiquitous Noahlink Wireless programming device!

Thanks to the community!

Hello,

I too am interested in self programming my Widex Moment 440.
Is your experience with connecting them via Noahlink wireless positive ?

Thank you

Yes. Once you have the firmware update on your Moments, it’s pretty good. I personally don’t think Compass (the programming software) is as intuitive as Target (from Phonak). But there are a bunch of videos online you can watch to learn it. Way cheaper to buy a Noahlink than the Widex programmer.

Hi, so is not possible to use the Widex usb link to program the Moment models? If so do you know which were the last models of Widex HAs which could use the usb link

I don’t know if you can use the Widex USB Link to program the new Moment models? The Widex USB Link is an older legacy hearing aid fitting device and the manual says “and more recent hearing aids” whatever that means?

thanks I will have to ask my audiologist, I did see on widexpro that the USBlink can still also be used as well as the prolink https://www.widexpro.com/en/business-support/compass/wireless-fitting/ it maybe necessary to manually navigate to this page from the home page as it keeps throwing up an error

Yes, but they say so using a squishy statement;
The new PRO LINK enables you to wirelessly fit all Widex hearing aids with reliable COMPASS GPS software. You can also still use nEARcom and USBLink fitting devices.

  • You can still use it for what? I don’t know?
  • Yep, your Audi may know. Or someone who has tried it may know.

The evoke models used the Pro Link. Just buy the Noahlink wireless, as all the latest HAs are now using it, all the future models will also, so with a Noahlink wireless you will be able to use and program any HA.

thank you , yes it is rather vague

thank you for your answer and for the link

Now there’s a couple of non-squishy statements:

  • all the latest HAs can use Noahlink Wireless
  • all the future models will use Noahlink Wireless

Hmm; Let’s poke at that a little. I know of only one instance of a Widex HA successfully using Noahlink Wireless. That one instance is in this thread and it took a HA firmware update. Is it only for the one Widex MOMENT model?? I think so (or more accurate) I am guessing so. But I could be wrong?

Also, here’s a video showing how to connect to a Widex CIC-Micro; How to fit DREAM CIC MICRO in COMPASS GPS - YouTube
The tiny Widex CIC-Micro is not wireless. Therefore, without wireless capability, it cannot be connected using Noahlink Wireless. Granted, the video is for an older CIC-Micro. But the newest/current Widex CIC-Micro is also not wireless. Scroll back up near the top of this thread to see the WIDEX PRO LINK Connector (that fits atop the WIDEX PRO LINK) and uses cables. That connector is for CIC-Micro non wireless models that use cables.

Also, we can’t say that all future models will use Noahlink Wireless. The Noahlink Wireless hearing aid programming device communicates with HAs using Bluetooth Low Energy/BLE. Are we going to use BLE technology/radios forever? I don’t know. I doubt it.

But all that being said, Noahlink Wireless is currently my favorite hearing aid programming device.

You click on the exclamation point to the left of the model name of the hearing aid you intend to purchase in Compass GPS, and we can see which programmers you can use in the pop-up information.

Wow!! @menglxs You always have the greatest tips!! Oh, I think it’s an (i) for information and not an exclamation point. I mouse-clicked the (i) for a whole bunch of different Widex hearings aids.

Yep, Widex MOMENT is the only model that can use Noahlink wireless. Thanks again @menglxs You have made all of us smarter. Now we don’t have to guess about which programming device to use. :+1:
