Actually captel and captioncall both have a live person monitoring the other end of the line. They do use voice recognition, but the communications assistant monitors the call to ensure the voice recognition software is captioning accurately. So in reality, the only benefit to those systems is the physical phone. Where InnoCaption has no voice recognition and is more accurate and much faster with captions. I have wondered about getting a captel business phone as a backup though since InnoCaption requires my iPhone which could break, etc. I have to check it out with my telecom dept…
Is there a third party on the line when I place and receive calls with captions?
Yes, a live Captioning Assistant (CA) hears only one side of the conversation in order to generate captions of what’s said to you through the use of advanced voice recognition software.
