Can I Turn My Hearing Aid Mic Off When Using a Phonak Roger ON?

I’m trying out a Phonak Roger ON, to possibly replace my current Roger Select. My HA is a Phonak Audeo Marvel M90-312T.

The ON definitely beats the Select because I can point it at a speaker that I want to hear, even at a distance. This is a great solution for the “Cocktail Party Problem” or when a group of people are standing around me.

However, I haven’t been able to find a way to disable the HA’s mic when using the Roger ON. I can do this easily in the app for the Select, and I find it very useful. If I could do this, I could focus on the person that I’ve pointed the Roger ON at, while not hearing sounds that I don’t want to hear through the HA.

I haven’t found a way to do this with the Roger ON, and in the app, when I press the mic icon that’s in the same place as it is in the app for the Select, the Roger ON’s mic goes off. Has anyone found a way to turn off the HA’s mic while leaving Roger ON’s mic on?

Alternatively, is there a settable program for my Audeo Marvel M90-312T that would have the same effect?

For me, the ON beats the Select (which I have used happily for years), except for this problem. I’d appreciate any help that someone could give me.

In the myPonak app I tap & open the “RogerDirect + mic” program at the top of the Home screen. Then tap on the “Ambient balance” near the screen bottom. Move the slider to the right for maximum External mic setting that eliminates surrounding environmental sounds.

Came here to say this. I do this all the time for tv and roger on when streaming media in the car. All the environmental noise is gone. My activevents are sealed up and the program is clear.

I never knew there was an App for the Select. Thought there was only an App for the On.

EDIT - I can’t find an App for the Select on the iOS App Store. Just the App for the On. What App are you using?

You could just ask your audiologist to turn Mics off for the Roger program in the software but Mics will be off all the time.

Saves having to use the myPhonak App to sort Mics out.

If you sometimes want the Mics on, then asking the audiologist will be no good.

Sorry if I am wrong but I do this continuesly in two ways as far as I know.

In the myPhonak phone app by using the slider environment or external mic button

Great you can try this, because I was thinking about moving my Roger licenses from my P90 to my M90 to try it out otherwise.

It doesn’t seem to work when connected to Roger on my M70.

The Partner Mic works as you describe tho but not the Roger.

I transferred my license of one ear from my Evolv P90 over to one of my Audéo M90 and it does seem to work also…

Difficulty was that the HA programm automatically changes in another program if I tried it out.with a speech sound and a music sound of the radio.

The Roger one listening to the radio and me walking away, or the Roger one and I walking away together and changing the volume with the volume buttons in both cases on the HA.

Problem also was that I lose the connection with my Roger one if I walk away too far.

The other ear I tried to plug but it is to complex to find out what really happens in my ears as my brain does not pass the information as for me to know what happens exactly. Maybe my hearing is not bad enough…

So I wonder if someone else could share information about this specific Roger one issue. It is me getting the wrong impression from my brain after all, or it could be a difference between the M90 and the M70.

This is an interesting topic for me. I have had the Roger Select iN for a number of years, but as you say @ed.winograd, it doesn’t work for the standing around ‘party’ situation. I have a Partner Mic for one-to-one, and that has been brilliant, but I have just ordered the Roger ON (don’t need the ON iN, as I already have the receivers in my Marvels). In view of what you have said, I’m really looking forward to trying it out. Thanks for the post.

PS. The ‘Ambient Balance’ slider that @al11 mentions works really well for me for the Select and also the TV Connector, Bluetooth streaming and Partner Mic.

I just got my Roger ON recently, and it’s worked well for the “cocktail party problem” and for other times when several people nearby are all talking. I keep it lower rather than higher as I point it at the person I want to hear, so it won’t feel intrusive to them.
