Born deaf, but decline in hearing loss due to (possibly) virus

I was born deaf since birth due to CMV that my mother caught a nasty virus when expecting me 43 years ago.

Over three years my hearing has decline significantly. My ability to lip reading is at lost and Im struggling to follow the conversation or shall I say I can hear but I cant understand if that make sense.

Last year, I found out that Im also a CMV carrier with past infection (viral).

Out of curiosity, Im wondering whether my hearing has declined due to virus Ive had in the past. I know Ive had a terrible sinus infections and thereabout cold or flu last year.

Im just curious whether others opinions.

If you have chronic sinusitis, you should check for any possible influence on the tympanic cavity (this is the work of an ENT specialist) – for example, by carrying out a tympanometry test.

It’s hard to tell. If you have congenital deafness, the hearing loss you have had since birth is almost certainly from CMV, but hearing decline in adult age - not necessarily. There are much another than CMV probable causes.

It is worth knowing that roughly half of the population is seropositive for CMV.

It’s example from one research in Germany:

I don’t have experience with any adults your age who know their loss is from cCMV, but certainly individually with cCMV can show changes in hearing long after birth.
