I have Phonak Slim Lumity 90s and I am finding the Bluetooth automatic connection very irritating. I enjoy streaming videos and calls with no problems at all, however when I am reading the news (or almost anything else) on my iPad my aids automatically connect to Bluetooth streaming mode if there’s an advert on the page and at that point I get the hiss in my ears. Adjusting ambient balance will fix that, but I have to set it every day as my aids lose this when turned off. At my last audiology visit I asked the Audi to set this permanently, but she said that she couldn’t and that it was a problem with my iPad. I’m pretty sure that this isn’t the case, but she wouldn’t budge on this. I’m wondering if anyone knows if the Bluetooth streaming and mic can be set up as a user option so that it would be off unless I select it? I need to go back as my right aid is making strange noises and I would quite like to get this fixed at the same time. Maybe one of the experts can answer this?
That hissing is definitely annoying. What works for me is just turning off Bluetooth on my iPad until I really want to stream something. Unfortunately, iPad seems to automatically turn Bluetooth on daily when I wake it up, and it also routinely steals the Bluetooth connection from my computer. Going into iPad Settings and turning off Bluetooth seems the easiest work-around.
Possibly, but at the moment that just creates a different noise in my right ear - the one that I am going back about.
Maybe block the sounds in the web browser? I don’t know if there are any options, I don’t use an iPad.
I’m not completely sure what you mean, but I have the volume off unless I need to turn it up. All the issues are with the sound off. I just tried it in silent mode and still got the hiss when my aids turned on Bluetooth streaming with adverts.
sorry
do other ipads have this problem and the new ipad?
Sorry I don’t understand. I only have the one iPad
I think I have a similar problem, but on an Android phone. I’ll be scrolling through news articles, bluetooth will connect and play the ads. I think Autoplay on videos needs to be turned off?
Thanks very much, I’ll give that a try
Progress, I searched and searched yesterday on how to do this and in the end had a live chat with Apple. The agent didn’t really know how to fix this and only gave me part of the answer. For any other IOS 18 users the solution is: settings > accessibility > per app settings > Safari (or any other app) > autoplay > off. When I first looked, there were no options, but if add app is clicked you get a list of your apps which you can select and you can check and turn off any features you want. It’s going to be different on Android. The result for me seems to be a partial fix in that videos have stopped auto playing, but adverts still do. I need to check a bit more, but it seems to be a step in the right direction. Thanks for helping.
You could also consider an adblocker app or extension for the ads. I don’t have an iPad but use 1Blocker on my iPhone. Although some sites discourage the use of adblockers, if advertisers are going to put in all these autoplay video ads I have no qualms about blocking them… Especially given the hearing aid issues I also share.
