You’d think this sort of stuff would have been addressed in the spec?
My iPhone has a disconnect on the Bluetooth control panel for each connected device. I can pop one off without having to shutdown BT. Seems excessive to unpair when disconnecting is effective.

Unfortunately, iPhones do not provide a disconnection option for “MFi Hearing Devices”.
Ugh. Like cutting your toenails with an axe.
WH
Probably not. The spec only defines a minimal set of functions so devices could work together at a basic level, but it leaves plenty of room for vendors to implement additional features to meet real-world user needs. Engineers also have to bridge gaps between different specs.
For example, as @Franciszek_K mentioned, ReSound Nexia works with the FMA120 in Auracast, but what happens after a call comes in? The call itself works fine, but after hanging up, Auracast only resumes in one ear. That’s because the hearing aids have to juggle switching from an MFi call back to Auracast, and the Bluetooth spec doesn’t (won’t) cover that—it just defines how a hearing aid starts and stops Auracast in a simple scenario. It still takes smart engineering to make these transitions seamless.
It’s easier on a Samsung phone that supports LE audio. It can disconnect the connected HA by tapping it. After that, the FMA120 can automatically connect back.
For your sanity and future compatibility, please check that the BT hardware is at least 5.3 level. A lot of new devices out there do not do 5.3 yet or even 5.4. Intel Evo platform or vPro might be more likely but please check. My Windows 11 machine has had one M.2 transplant to catch up to 5.2 but I will probably swap in 5.4 soon. It’s not for the faint of heart but it very possible to upgrade a slightly older system with a newer Wi-Fi and BT chip. Also note that Intel based systems are using a BE200 more often and AMD seem to vary so you many need a different Mfg chips to improve things. The hardware is on a carrier called M.2 2230 and you must have an “E” type socket.
Hi I just wanted to add to the working hearing aid list. I have TruHearing TH 7 Premium, firmware version 25.5.1039.3. and they are working great to stream audio from my PC to HA’s . I did shut off my phone (iphone) to avoid conflict. this was my first try, so i will update as i learn more. But i will say the quality is great perfectly clear.
Also , I’d like to add TruHearing TH 7 Premium (Signia 7IX) confirmed working . Firmware version 25.5.1039.3
Thanks for confirming that! I wanted to let you know that we’re working with some Philips 9050 users to improve automatic reconnection stability when hearing aids return from out of range. These improvements may also benefit other models.
thanks for letting me know. Good to know. I did notice that when i went out of range and back , it connected to just 1 hearing aid. But when i moved out for a second time it connected to both. This is literally the first night with this, so limited experience.
That is good to hear! Looking forward to the improvements.
Fyi, firmware for truhearing th 7 Premium is 25.5.1039.3
Thanks for confirming the firmware version! This is valuable information in understanding the compatibility requirements.
A new test version is now available with some improvements to the FMA120’s reconnection stability.
Downloaded and will try it out, thanks! I can test it a bit today, but then may be a week or so before I get a chance to use it again, just FYI.
Many users have found switching connections between the FMA120 and their phone to be a bit confusing. To help, here’s a tested workflow that works with both the ReSound Nexia 9 and Jabra Enhance Pro 20. Users of other hearing aids may also find this helpful as a reference.
1. Switching from FMA120 to Phone
- Option 1: Right-click on your hearing aids’ name in FlooCast, then select “Disconnect” from the pop-up menu. After this, the FMA120 will not automatically reconnect to the hearing aids until it is power reset (unplugged and replugged).
- Option 2: Simply unplug the dongle.
2. Switching from Phone to FMA120
- For iPhone: Since Apple currently does not provide a “Disconnect” function for MFi hearing aids, turn off Bluetooth on your phone. The FMA120 will then automatically connect to the hearing aids when plugged in (powered on). If you previously used “Disconnect” in FlooCast (step 1 option 1), right-click the hearing aids’ name and choose “Connect” to reconnect.
- For Android with LE Audio (e.g., Samsung S23): Tapping on the connected hearing aids will disconnect them. The hearing aids should then be able to reconnect to the FMA120 as outlined for iPhone.
What I’ve found is that the Philips 9050 immediately reconnect to the phone (Pixel 8 Pro). I haven’t found a way of changing that behaviour.
Does closing the mobile app from the background make any difference?
I went App Info to Force Stop and no, ‘Disconnect’ (Device Details screen) does disconnect but immediately reconnects. There was a topic some time ago on LE Audio quirks and this was one of them.
Edit: That’s the Philips Hearlink app I stopped.
