Selection: Where to Start?
The rationale for choosing a specific coupling method is relatively straightforward if one understands the differences between:
- An open versus an occluded fit;
A standard (#13) tube versus a thin-tube; and
- A thin-tube versus a thin-wire (RIC) fitting.
In the subsequent comparisons, we will use the frequency output of a standard occluded-ear fitting (ie, a BTE hearing aid coupled to a standard #13 unvented occluding earmold) as the reference for our discussions.
All manufacturers have separate listings on their websites one called BTE and one called RIC. But if you two are happy confusing people have at it. Are you guys related to Raymond?
