From a demo at a TruHearing-affiliated store, I was interested on the ReSound Alera. Then, found out (here! THANKS!!) about the Resound Future. Literally half the price for the same feature set sounded like a winner, and so made the Costco appointment.
When I get done with the test, the Specialist points me to, not the Future, but to the Bernafon Chronos–which I’d never heard of. Asked why, got no intelligible explanation. Said, I want to go home and check out the interwebs. So, I do, and find this thread, as well as others for the Bernafon Venti. Also, check out Bernafon’s corporate site–which I found much less impressive than ReSound’s (and I’m not talking flash effects, but rather peer-reviewed research papers). Did, digging around, find, in About Bernafon, Press Releases, the one from April 6, when the aid was premiered at the Audiology Now! conference in Chicago. (This site won’t let me put up the link.)
These may turn out to be wonderful for many customers. But I gotta say that I’m a skeptic–particularly with the set-up software not in the stores until 8.1.11, and there are a lot of TM’s in that press release, but not much in the way of technical explanation anywhere on their website. Newest doesn’t always mean better; sometimes, it just means newer.
