Background Noise When Streaming on Phonak Sphere Infinio and Best Setting for Classroom?

I have the Phonak Audeo Sphere Infinio 90s, and I have two questions that will show my ignorance. Curious if anyone can explain to me and guide me here:
(1) I’ve noticed that when listening to podcasts streamed directly to the HAs, the ambient sounds in the room or car are actually louder. So I can hear the dehumidifier in the room or the turn signal, at a louder volume than when not streaming. Is that because in automatic (non-streaming mode) the Spheres filter out more background noise?
(2) Any suggestions for how to adjust the settings through the app to customize my own program that would amplify softer voices in a classroom? There doesn’t tend to be background noise (other than an HVAC system when on) as there would be in a restaurant, but I’m trying to hear those speaking on the other side of a classroom in an otherwise pretty quiet setting.
Thank you!

Your audiologist can add a soft speaker program to your hearing aids for you.

Also a Roger On microphone would really help soft speaking students. When using Roger On, be sure to use the setting in your app for ambient balance.

During streaming, you can adjust the balance between environmental sound vs. streaming:

Speaking of soft voices, you can try adjust the slider to the “Increase quiet”, which is increasing gain for sound around 50 dB (G50).

Another solution is visit in Audiologist’s office and request to make Speech Enhancer to maximum. Depending of choice - for automatic Calm Situation program (part of AutoSense OS) and/or in manual Calm Situation.

You can also request for making more gain for G50 sounds, but possibility of that depends on how much occluded you have your acoustic coupling (domes? earmold/cShell/SlimTips?) to avoid acoustic feedback.

Too open settings can prevent the gain from being raised.

You can use the rocker switch buttons on the hearing aids for adjusting the balance between environmental sound vs. streaming.

  • To get louder streaming input and lesser surroundings touch several times on the rocker button which is in front.

  • To get more from the ambient and less stream sound, tap the rocker button several times towards your back.

Thank you for the suggestions!

Another solution is visit in Audiologist’s office and request to decrease/reduce the microphone input in the dedicated streaming program
