Hi everyone,

I have moderate hearing loss in both ears and I am currently considering to get pair of oticon IIC . Maybe anyone have exprenciece with this model and can share their reviews here? How are they in dealing with backround noise and etc? Any informaton would be appreciated.

I have the oticon opn 1 iic and am very happy with them. I have written quite a few posts on this forum about my experience. You can access all the posts through the activity in the profile

I’m after getting my third pair made in past month or so as the first two pairs kept slipping out. They have finally fixed the slipping out but I’m having trouble hearing one on one conversation in bars/ restaurants. I’ve had them adjusted but still missing words in noisier places - not even loud places just with other things going on.

I’m finding all other sounds very good and really notice sounds Ive been missing. Is this normal? I can’t decide whether or I’m better off with the Aids or not at the moment with my loss. Maybe I should wait and see in time of it gets worse and try aids again then?

Anyone else ever in same position? Thoughts? Thanks.

Welcome to the real world of hearing aids, they do help but will never give you perfect hearing. Be patient and give your brain time to adjust. If you have aids that are in your ear canals then they only have a single microphone and can’t remove as much noise.

Most hearing aids have a directional program to help focus your hearing in a particular direction.
Ask your fitter about that.

And as cvkemp has said, your problem is just like the rest of us. Some of us use some sort of remote mic to help us hear in noisy places. You might ask about that too.

Good luck.

These are IIC.

There’s no directional function from the single mic.

There’s tuning in the software, but even Oticon were saying that the OPN single mic devices were capable of of only about 1.4dB improvement in SNR vs. 4-9dB on the twin mic RIC.

It’s basically down to tuning the response as best as possible to utilise the pinna effect. Real Ear Measurement will probably help in doing this.

My hearing is a little better than yours and I also struggled in noisy situations.

Do you feel you need the aids all the time? I’m still not sure whether to stick with it or just deal with the loss until it possibly gets more difficult…did you stick with IIC or go to RIC?

I’m using my RIC all the time. I rarely notice I’m wearing them. I have the IICs as backup. Initially I thought I didn’t care much for phone connectivity, but after using the RICs, I rely on the MFI for phone calls, music and and other media both on my phone and my ipad.

Hi everyone, thank you all for your feedback.
I have bought a pair of oticon IIC since I wrote this post, and been using them for 2 months now, here is how it’s going so far.

  1. As Jonhmurphy pointed - good at echansing “other” non-speech related casual sounds (cars outside the house passing by, wind, rain, walking sounds).
  2. I have noticed just a little increase in speech recognition in queit enviroment and they are close to useless when it comes to louder enviroments (bar, mall, restaurants) I rather don’t even wear them in those places.
  3. Since they are completely in canal, they are really comfortable, I don’t notice them when I wear them. I can train, run, wear headphones, talk with phone. Also it does not make any unwanted sounds when its windy. I have been using them for 2 months, my colleagues and friends haven’t even noticed me using them yet.
  4. Good at enchansing sound from TV/speakers/other devices. Can enjoy my Netflix evenings again and can hear radio when people play it at their sounds level.
  5. Aids are dealing with very loud sound quite well - very rarely I have to take them out because i can no longer handle high sound levels.

Overall it has been mixed experience for me - I hoped for better hearing when it comes to speech, I’ve gotten better hearing in everything except for speech… I have to use them all the time because of my severe tinnitus, it has been masking part of it, so I am at least happy for it. I’m still not sure if its worth the price (I payed 4.2k euros for a pair, which is a lot in Lithuania) and still wondering if there are better models.

That’s my take so far, I will go to audiologist soon to maybe re-adjuts my sound levels, hope it will make some progress.
