Greetings to everyone, very glad to have found this forum and so many experienced people. I first visited my ENT 10 years ago when I was 34 as I felt a fullness/plugged feeling in my left ear along with trouble hearing. I was told that I had SNHL in that ear but it was not severe enough to need a HA. Fast forward ten years and I have had to replace a few alarm clocks that I couldn’t hear if i was sleeping on my good ear. I find myself asking for people to repeat themselves and also notice that I automatically turn my head in order to try to understand people’s speech. I find myself looking to my right when a sound actually originates from my left. My workday involves some office work and meetings, visits to construction sites ( lots of background noise ) and teaching a couple classes in the evening.
I revisited my ENT last week and did a new hearing test. I was told that I should now be using 2 HA’s. I was also informed that they would cost $5500 CDN (Oticon RIC). I have 4 kids and my insurance will only cover about $2500. I will be visiting the new Costco hearing center near me next week. I will attach my audiogram and hope someone can decifer it for me and advise me if a RIC model is most appropriate. I kind of like the idea of invisible CIC’s but I worry about them not being as reliable. I am an apple user and will never leave that platform.
