I have a pair of Phonak Audeo M90-RT hearing aids. I also have an Android phone (Xiaomi POCO F5) and Bluetooth pairing works perfectly except for one problem.
If I don’t turn off media audio for the hearing aids, they keep muting for 3-4 seconds every minute or so. Normally they mute if there is audio coming from the phone, but this is a continuous thing even when there is nothing happening with the phone. It’s as if the phone is periodically pinging the hearing aids to maintain the BT connection maybe?
I have a NoaLink Wireless 2 and Phonak Target software that I am slowly becoming familiar with. Other than switching Media Audio off on the phone and only turning it on when I want to listen to media from my phone, is there a setting in either Android on the phone or one the HAs using Target that will stop them from muting periodically?
Your phone is probably initiating streaming (look in MyPhonak for what the current program is at any moment) regardless of whether audio is sent or not. I get this often with web browsers or apps that act that way when video windows are on the screen. Even if muted, they grab the HAs. It could be one app that has an extremely short audio notification. The sound is already “done” by the time the HAs change over to streaming.

Thanks for your input. I think I understand what you’re describing but this periodic muting of the HAs happens even if I’m not using the phone and no apps are running (at least not in the foreground). It’s as if the phone is asking the HAs “Are you still there?” and they are responding as if the phone is streaming something to them.
If any app has a notification, it will play, whether you are using the phone or not, unless you turn off permission for that app to play audio notifications.

You’re absolutely right, and that’s how I connected the muting to my phone, I noticed that in addition to the periodic muting (roughly once a minute), the HA’s muted when I received a notification.
But even when there are no notifications, something happens about once a minute (or two or three) that mutes the HAs if I have media streaming enabled on the phone.
I went through the apps in the notification dialog and shut off audio notifications for all apps except phone. I turned off the audio for things like key clicks etc. I also slide the mute switch to mute. Probably a few other changes I can’t remember. So many sources of audio. It takes a while to weed out all sources of sound.
