I posted about having really itchy ears before. After many many months of trying different over-the-counter and prescription things, long story short, as suspected, I’ve been told I’m likely allergic to the acrylic molds. In the end, had to be prescribed some cream that actually lowers immune system; it cleared up within a couple days but due to the nature of the cream, it’s not for long term usage so don’t think it’s wise to wear and use cream.
Is there anything that can be done short of having a different material? Like can you coat it with something? I don’t think the hearing aid place at my hospital does different materials as I asked about silicone before.
My ears doesn’t just get super duper itchy, but end up shedding the entire skin in my ear canal within a month or so if I consistently wear it (wake to sleep everyday). I can wear it sporadically everyday without issue (e.g. only when I play music or have a meeting), or wear it alternate days with minor itching, but then I just forget about wearing them since my loss is “mild”. There is a large enough difference for me that I want to wear them but general day-to-day it’s subtle enough to forget too; 100% notice when playing cello.
And I am allergic to the material that domes are made from and acrylic ear molds work great for me. So like I have said over and over every one is different.
Perhaps you have the abilty to get molds made from titanium.
Titanium is the most hypoallergenic material known to man. So if you have skin sensitivity, Titanium is the perfect option.
Titanium earmolds are available in different formfactors and different colors.
It would seem @firenzel, from what I can gather on the grapevine, Audioligist’s are rather reluctant to order Titanium moulds? I asked 2 A.uD’s recently, and none would take me on! Phonak, I believe recently started up a new Lab in the UK, I believe returns have been horrendous, instructions rarely followed, like vent size, or no vent whatsoever… This is still a highly skilled operation, even if the moulds are 3D printed, they have to be skilfully finished, and obviously this takes time. I believe Titanium moulds for UK are made in Vietnam, I believe this requires a digital scan, I have yet to see a digital scanner for mould impressions? It would be interesting to see if any of the other peeps, from UK on here, have had Titanium moulds made? Cheers Kev
